HOI To Roast Former Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd

Mark your calendars for Wednesday Nov 11 for another fun evening of HOI “roasting”. Bill Floyd has agreed to be the target of this year’s annual fun-draising event for HOI. Registration can be secured a hoi.org/billfloyd. Please come out to honor Bill, support a great cause, and be entertained. The event will be held at the Decatur Marriott Courtyard and Conference Center, with the silent auction beginning at 6 PM, and the dinner/roast starting at 7.

Bill, a long time supporter of HOI, was a founding member of the HOI Board of Directors 25 years ago and was a critical part of the famous Dan Pattillo/Decatur First United Methodist exploration trips to Honduras to build the ranch infrastructure. An Auburn educated engineer, Bill’s expertise of wastewater treatment introduced sanitation technology into a part of the world that had no previous experience with the concept. Making many trips to the ranch, Bill helped design and construct the infrastructure that is at the core of the HOI operations in the Agalta Valley. Because of the robust systems we have in place, HOI can host large numbers of teams each year. In addition to investing his time and expertise, Bill also has been extremely generous to HOI through the years, with his financial support and donations of equipment.

Bill is well known as the long-term mayor of Decatur, helping set in place the foundations that have served the city so well. Decatur is now known as one of the most sought after places to live and has gained national recognition as a vibrant, welcoming, and livable city. He has also been highly visible on a statewide basis a Chairman of the Georgia Municipal Association and as a member of the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The roast evening will be a fun filled event with a great line up of presenters that includes Dr. Don Harp, who will provide the invocation and his salute to our nation in honor of our Veterans; Ms. Stacey Abrams; Minority Leader of the Georgia House of Representatives; Walt Drake, Senior Attorney with McCurdy Candler Law Firm and former Mayor of Decatur; Ms. Patti Garrett, Mayor Pro-tem of Decatur; and Dr. Larry Minnix, CEO of Leading Age. Additionally there will be entertainment provided by the Atlanta Rat Pack.

The silent auction will have some outstanding items including several unique vacation homes in the US and abroad; four nights on a yacht in south Florida; photo safari’s in South Africa; and artwork from some of the nations leading artists including Veryl Goodnight and George Lundeen (of Decatur Square “Valentine and Thomas Jefferson” fame).

In addition to a really fun evening, HOI will be introducing the new Family Health Partners program, which will allow for individual sponsors in the US and Central America to participate financially in the exciting process of bringing improved health and life sustaining pure water to thousands of people in the areas we serve. The lack of potable water the majority of people suffer with in Honduras and Nicaragua is a primary cause of most of the poor health conditions that rob people of their ability to thrive. Waterborne illness not only causes disease, but its ancillary effects cause people have to miss work and school. The ripple effect is very costly.

We hope you can join us on November 11!
