Education
The most significant barrier children face to obtaining an education in Honduras is cost. Ten percent of the children never go to school because their parents simply cannot afford it. To help combat the growing need for education, Honduras Outreach, Inc. began an extensive Education Program. The program involves many facets and opportunities for education from early years of kindegarten to the high school level for those students with the drive and desire to learn. We opened the HOI kindergarten, Aldersgate Elementary School, and the Hope Middle School. We also helped build and support over 45 kindergartens in the Valley. We recently opened a High School (grades 10-12), Grace High School, at the site of our Hope Middle School which will teach career skills which students can learn to advance their ability to make a living.
- Four in-service training sessions are held annually for volunteer teachers in 41 rural kindergartens.
- Teaching and student materials are provided on an annual basis for 41 rural kindergartens
- A Parent Society was formed by parents of children attending the Ranch kindergarten
- On average, 289 children attended the Ranch kindergarten and rural kindergartens and proceeded to elementary school
- On average, 171 students are enrolled in the Aldersgate Elementary School in Culuco and 146 are enrolled in the Hope Middle School on an annual basis

Scholarship Program
This program enables motivated and qualified students in the Agalta Valley to continue their education beyond the government provided elementary years. Our scholarship program, funded by generous contributions from North American sponsors, supplies tuition, room and board to qualified, deserving students. For the students who must travel from home and live with a sponsor family in another village Scholarships of $600 per year are provided. For students who are fortunate to live in a village with a school, scholarships for $250 per year are provided.
HOI has a Teacher Training Project which gives education professionals from the United States the chance to share techniques and experiences with Honduran teachers. Through our Teacher Training Project we now have 63 trained voluntary kindergarten teachers. We also have nine mobile libraries, circulating thousands of books in the valley. For many, the libraries have made it possible to read books at home for the first time in their lives. We have recently been given funds by a generous donation to build a full library in the Hope Middle School which is the first of its kind in the valley.
