Ripples of Inspiration
Growing up with six siblings, Paula Veliz’s parents never even considered sending their children to school beyond the local elementary level. Despite this obstacle, Paula was determined to pursue her dreams and goals. She was blessed with a God-given passion for learning which compelled her to continue her education.
In 2000, she received a scholarship through HOI and had the opportunity to attend middle school and high school from funding provided by a North American sponsor. Paula’s thirst for knowledge and the generosity of an HOI partner put her and her family on a path towards prosperity.
Paula remained focused on her goals and maintained the academic requirements throughout high school. She was the first person in her family to complete that level of education, but she didn’t stop there. She had aspirations to become a teacher so she went even further in her schooling.
One Donor’s Investment Touches Many Lives
She exemplifies the power of education in one’s life and its role in determining one’s future. It took her 5 years, but Paula put herself through college in Juticalpa even after getting married and having her first child. She has passed this passion for education on to her son, who now attends HOI’s elementary school, and to her siblings, two of which received scholarships from HOI’s education program. Her siblings are now completing their university degrees in Accounting and Systems Engineering and are striving to reach their full potential. Her inspiration reaches far beyond just her family. She plays a critical role in inspiring dozens of other children each day as she serves as our school’s 5th grade teacher.
There are only 35 students in the HOI schools who need sponsorship. The Agalta Valley is changing because of compassionate, caring sponsors who we are very thankful for. You can have a part in changing the future of a child and Honduras! Won’t you prayerfully consider being a sponsor?
